Dear Ladies of the Los Ninos Guild:
The final numbers are in and our Guild raised $47,000 this fiscal year. When you combine this with last year’s total of $52,000 we have raised almost $100,000 for CHOC. Great job!!! We do not as yet know our financial goal for this year but I am confident that we will meet our goal.
I always knew we had talented ladies amongst us but did not realize until the Vista Del Mar carnival that we have skilled face painters. Marianne, Phyllis, Carol and Jo did a yeoman’s job with the children. Thanks to Bree, Gail and Brandi for coordinating this event.
Phyllis and Sheila hosted a lovely Installation/Membership.
Luncheon at Gemmell’s in Dana Point on Monday, May 15th. Welcome to Marianne Houston, Gail Gonzales and Nan Quinn to the Los Ninos Board of officers. Thanks to all of you for the wonderful gifts. I appreciate your thoughtfulness and have enjoyed being your president for the past year.
Tours of CHOC - main campus and Mission Hospital can be arranged when we obtain at least four members for a specific tour. I will be happy to coordinate with the Foundation.

Please note that the date for the CHOC WALK has been changed to August 27th this year. We would like at least one member to commit to walk so that the membership can support you. If $600 is pledged to a walker, then we get two (2) Disneyland Hopper tickets to use as an auction item for our Spring Fundraiser. If you are willing to participate, please let Dianne Preston know
MANY THANKS TO BREE HUGHES AND HER VOLUNTEERS @ THE VISTA DEL MAR SCHOOL CARNIVAL. WE FACE PAINTED, GAVE OUT SUCKERS, SUN SCREEN, LIP BALM AND LITERATURE ON LOS NINOS.
Dear Ladies of the Los Ninos Guild:
In April, four of our members (Marianne Houston, Cathy Stark, Gloria Rooney and Jo Nicolosi) toured the Bill Holmes Tower; they were escorted by Monique Bates. She had arranged for some unit administrators to speak with them, they spent time in the Ryan Seacrest Studio and they marveled at how tiny the diapers were in the NICU. Gloria commented that it would have fit one of the teddy bears in the centerpieces at our bingo luncheon. All of them thought it was two hours well spent and encourage anyone who has not had the opportunity to visit to call me and get on the list for the available dates in May. Tours are not conducted during the winter months because of exposing the patients to the flu so take advantage of the times now available.
All categories of members are encouraged to attend our installation luncheon at Gemmell’s. The invitation was in last month’s newsletter or you can call Sheila Valenzuela.

If you need more invitations for our fundraiser, A TIME TO PLAY, on March 9th @ Bella Collina, contact Dianne Preston or use the electronic version. Reservations will be closed on or before February 21st and we always sell out.
Sheila Valenzuela has put out a call for help in locating a storage area for all Los Ninos things—baskets, banners, paper, ribbon, auction boxes, etc. Do you know of someone who might have a third car garage, large closet or a business that could spare some storage space??? Our longtime area in the Hendrix building is now unavailable as the building is being sold. We have secured a rental but it is only for six months. Please give this some thought and let Dianne or Sheila know if you can help.
Dear Los Ninos Guild Ladies: Happy New Year!
I know we are all looking forward to a prosperous and successful 2017 in our efforts to support Children’s Hospital. Before we look to a new year, I would like to reflect on the events of our Guild in 2016:
We have achieved and exceeded our goal ($40,000) in the area of fundraising. A total of $52,000 was raised.
Thanks to your great sales abilities, we sold more Sees Candy than ever before. Our total sales were $20,551.50 for a net profit of $6,010.85.
We continue to pray for Eileen Matthews and her family as they deal with the serious injuries sustained by her husband, John, in a fall just before Christmas.
THE MEASURE OF A PERSON’S REAL CHARACTER IS WHAT HE WOULD DO IF HE KNEW HE WOULD NEVER BE FOUND OUT.
GET READY FOR “TIME TO PLAY” Our fabulous trio of Sandy Starr, Catherine McLoughlin and Jeanne Mills request that you bring your completed baskets, donations, etc. for the March 9th fundraiser to our January general meeting. Please don’t wrap them and, if you don’t have a container, don’t worry as they have extras——-just bring the contents!! It’s hard to realize that our biggest event is only 2 months away. They need that time to assemble the raffle and bingo baskets and complete the auction items displays. Gloria Rooney and Cathy Stark put out a last call for the boards from your games for the centerpieces; don’t forget to put your name on them if you want them returned. Marianne Houston will be contacting you about volunteering to help in some capacity the day of the event. Sheila Valenzuela and Andi Mandel will also be handing out the invitations at our January meeting so prepare your list of the people you plan to invite. If you can’t attend the meeting, please contact Sheila for your invitations. Our Ways and Means V.P., Peggy Miller, has put a lot of thought and hard work into making this a success that will help us meet our pledge goal of $45,000 for the fiscal year. She hosted a Christmas party for her swim and walking groups plus a few neighbors and requested gift cards for CHOC in lieu of hostess gifts. Her friends were extremely generous and these will be added to the baskets. So get to work as everyone is expected to participate!! Contact one of the above ladies if you need ideas or want to help.
JANUARY GENERAL MEETINGThe date for the next general meeting is Monday, January 16th at The Outlets VIP Lounge. Social time begins at 9:30 a.m. and the meeting starts at 10 a.m. Since we have a storage unit, Sheila Valenzuela requests that you also bring anything that belongs to Los Ninos to the meeting. Hostess is Patti Brotherton.
Please plan to join us for lunch at a local restaurant following the meeting.
Dear Ladies of the Los Ninos Guild,
A very “special thank you” to Laurie Hanten who walked in the CHOC WALK on Sunday, October 30th, on behalf of our Guild. With your support, we were able to raise over $600, enabling our Guild to receive two Disneyland Park Hopper tickets. Also, a big round of applause to K. C. Brotherton who also walked with his family. It was his idea to walk for Los Ninos and his proud mother, Patti, reported that K.C. finished third overall in monies raised by an individual and qualified for five Disneyland Park Hopper tickets, two of which he is graciously donating to Los Ninos for our March fundraising event. Way to go, K.C.!
I want to thank everyone who has so generously given their time in selling Sees” candies. We hope to top our sales from last year. Carol is certain we are up to the challenge!
At our last meeting, we discussed various ideas for future fundraising activities. After small group discussions, we narrowed the list to three possibilities:
Wishing you all the joys of a wonderful holiday.
