The Los Niños Guild was founded in 1969 to raise funds for Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC Children’s). The original group of a dozen women has grown to over 50 volunteers who live and work in San Clemente, San Juan Capistrano, Dana Point and Laguna Niguel.
Since those early days, Los Niños Guild has raised over $1.5 million to support the wonderful work of CHOC Children’s – for both the main hospital in Orange and the CHOC unit at Mission Hospital. We have provided state-of-the-art incubator/transporters for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, a triage room for the Emergency Department, specialized furniture for hospital rooms which allow parents to stay overnight with their child, and ongoing support of Child Life Services, which uses play techniques and equipment to help minimize anxiety for young patients and to help them understand their treatments.
Because Mission Hospital is so important to our South Orange County community, Los Niños Guild focuses much of our fundraising efforts on the needs of CHOC Children’s at Mission. A 54-bed “hospital within a hospital”, CHOC Children’s at Mission is the only children’s hospital in south Orange County, the surrounding coastal areas, and north San Diego county. They provide many specialized services including Level 3 Neonatal Intensive Care, Pediatric Intensive Care, an Epilepsy Monitoring Unit, a Sleep Center, Pediatric Emergency Services and a Level 2 Pediatric Trauma Center. The Los Niños Guild members raise money in a variety of ways and we have been active in community events since our formation, including the annual CHOC/Disneyland Walk. In addition, we organize fundraising events such as luncheons, fashion shows, cocktail parties, auctions, and other special events.
